Federal Government decides to launch a national database for sex offenders
A sex offender database or registry is a system in which authorities keep track of sex offenders, including those who have completed their criminal sentences.
The federal government has decided to establish a national database for sex offenders to help stop incidents of rape and sexual assault. Senator Faisal Javed Khan announced this decision while talking to reporters.
“A national database of rapists and sex offenders is going to be set up”, he said.
The senator said that abusers and rapists will be severely punished.
“Prime Minister Imran Khan has also made it clear that no concessions should be made to such criminals”, he said.
Members of the government asked for awarding harsher punishments to rapists after the motorway incident took place.
PM Khan said that he believes pedophiles and rapists should be hanged publically but these punishments might have ‘international repercussions’.
“I think chemical castration must be conducted on those criminals”, he said.
The senator added that the government is going to introduce laws to protect women and children. The identities of survivors will also be kept a secret since victims are sometimes blackmailed by their abusers.
“We need to make an example of sexual abusers and child rapists, and there is a need to debate on laws of public execution”, the PTI senator said.
