Former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif might be striking another ‘deal’ after the government has allowed him to go abroad for his treatment,
The government has decided to send Nawaz Sharif abroad after reviewing his alarming medical reports. According to the source, ex-prime minister, along with his brother Shahbaz Sharif, will go to London soon.
The government officials and close friends of Nawaz Sharif told that former prime minister agreed to go abroad on the request of family members, particularly his mother.
Nawaz Sharif is suffering from bleeding disorder disease, ITP, in which platelets are destroyed by the immune system.
Maryam Nawaz also confirmed about the arrangements of Nawaz Sharif leaving abroad for treatment.
“I obviously can’t travel immediately because the court has my passport,” said Maryam Nawaz.
In 2001, when Nawaz Sharif went into exile, he settled for a deal with then Saudi King Abdullah bin Abdelaziz. Speculations say that he is going to strike another deal with the establishment. However, PMLN leader Nehal Hashmi continues to rebuff it.
“This is a purely medical development. It has nothing to do with politics,” Hashmi told the Turkish Agency.
“It’s not his (Sharif’s) personal doctor, but three medical boards, including a government one, have suggested that he should [be] treated abroad because they are unable to properly diagnose his disease,”, he said.
What do the political analysts believe?
Senior political analyst Hamid Mir said that Nawaz Sharif going abroad is in government’s interest. “He (Sharif) is at death’s door. It’s not only his family but the establishment too wants him to go abroad,” said Mir, adding, “If anything happens to his life in prison, it will be difficult for the establishment and the government to handle the backlash.”
“It’s still not sure if he will be able to fly because of his deteriorating condition,” he maintained.
Another analyst, Habib Akram, believes that such development is not possible without an understanding. “If there is no deal involved in recent happenings, then there is at least an understanding that has made this all possible,” Akram said while talking to mentioned source.
“The recent developments reflect establishment’s resentment against Sharif but the political horizon is still murky and needs to clear”, he said. “We cannot predict yet the effect of this understanding on future politics.”
