Naya Pakistan Housing Program: Over 5,000 Transgenders Among The Applicants
Prime Minister Imran Khan also exempted Naya Pakistan Housing Scheme from taxes.
The number of applications for the Naya Pakistan Housing Program has exceeded the 1.9 million mark, as per the data released by the National Database and Registration Authority (Nadra).
The low-cost housing program, initiated by the current government, has attracted people from different working classes. Among the 1.9 million applicants, 5,500 transgender persons have also submitted their applications.
Furthermore, the applicants also include 34,654 widows, 715,473 people from the labor class, 184,355 slum dwellers and 9,325 divorced women. Apart from online registration, NADRA is also facilitating the people through its e-sahulat network spread across the country.
According to a spokesman, the second phase of the program received an overwhelming response from the masses. Federal capital has topped the list of applications with 259,276 applications followed by Karachi (121,759), Multan (77,569), Bahawalpur (57,442), Peshawar (44,685), and Lahore (22,089).
The registration process has witnessed a spike as the last date for registration, 15 December, approaches. Last month, the government decided to extend the registration deadline. A couple of days ago Prime Minister Imran Khan also exempted Naya Pakistan Housing Scheme from taxes.
