Netflix’s ‘Palestinian Stories’ is all about Award-winning Palestinian Films
The collection is a tribute to the creativity and passion of the Arab film industry as Netflix continues to invest in stories from the Arab world.
Netflix has launched a film collection titled “Palestinian Stories” which includes 32 award-winning films either directed by Palestinian filmmakers or by tell Palestinian stories, the global streaming giant said in a press release. It currently has 32 films and more will be added over the next few weeks.
The collection features the works of ‘prolific and critically-acclaimed directors like Annemarie Jacir, Mai Masri, Mahdi Fleifel, Susan Youssef, May Odeh, Farah Nabulsi and many more.’ “The collection is a tribute to the creativity and passion of the Arab film industry as Netflix continues to invest in stories from the Arab world,” the company said in a press release.
One of the directors of the films featured in the Netflix collection, May Odeh, expressed her happiness for finally seeing ‘Palestinian films accessible to wide audiences through Netflix.’
“We all in the Palestinian film industry have been eager to share our narrative with the world through our authentic creative productions as an alternative to news reporting. I can’t thank the team at Netflix and Front Row enough for the effort to make this happen.”
The Netflix collection of Palestinian films has award-winning and award-nominated films such as Like 20 Impossibles’ (كاننا عشرون مستحيل). The film made it to the Cannes Film Festival becoming the first film from the Arab world to premier at the prestigious event. Furthermore, it also won the Best Film at Palm Springs, Chicago, IFP/New York, Nantucket, and Mannheim-Heidelberg film festivals.
