New Government is considering closure of the PTI’s “Ehsaas Rashan Riayat” Program
According to media reports, the Punjab Finance Department has recommended the closure of the PTI’s “Ehsaas Rashan Riayat Program” for low-income people.
About the Ehsaas Rashan Riayat Program
The PTI government launched the Ehsaas Program countrywide. Under the scheme, food items were being subsidized for the lower classes. Citizens who were part of the program were given a 30% subsidy on the purchase of groceries from the registered shops. A web portal was also created for registering people for the program.
New Government brings New Directives
Recently, the government changed. Under the reign of the new government, the Punjab Finance Department made recommendations to close the Ehsaas Program in Punjab.
Why has the Department suggested the closure of the program?
According to official documents, the Punjab Finance Department has informed the government that the federal government has received Rs. 9 billion from Punjab under this Program. The department has recommended that if such an amount is not being used by the federal government then it should be withdrawn.
The finance department officials said:
The Chief Minister’s public utility package has also started in Punjab so running two programs at once is creating difficulties for the province.
Sources state that the Punjab Chief Minister has been briefed on the closure of this program. However, he has not yet approved it. The decision is currently being evaluated. Only time will tell what is finalized post consideration.
