New UK immigration system
The UK is to have a new immigration system from January 2021.

The United Kingdom will have a new immigration system from the 1st of January 2021. The new system will be applicable to both EU citizens and non-EU citizens.

In an exclusive online interview with Dawn, The UK’s Minister for Future Borders and Immigration, Kevin Foster, said, “If the citizens of Pakistan, want to work in the United Kingdom, all they will need to demonstrate is that they have a job offer from an approved sponsor at the required skill and salary levels.”

He added, “Students applying to study here through the new student route will need to verify that they have an offer from a licensed educational institution. Moreover, they would also be able to speak English, and support themselves during their studies in the UK.

“We are also making it easier for international graduates of the UK higher educational institutes to acquire skilled jobs in the country,” the minister informed.

Regarding the graduate route, the minister said it would be introduced in the summer of 2021. It can transform into a short-duration work visa.

“Those in the UK on the graduate route can apply in the country to switch into the skilled worker route if they secure a job offer which meets the requirements” he added.

As for the UK visit visa, from the 1st of December 2020, short-term study of up to six months will be included in visit visas as a permitted activity.

“It means students can enter the UK as visitors to study short courses at a certified institution for up to six months,” the minister concluded.

More details of the routes, which will form the new points-based system, can be found in the policy statement.
