New Zealand has been in the news lately for passing a bill that grants maternity leave to women if they have had a miscarriage.

“The bill will give women and their partners time to come to terms with their loss without having to tap into sick leave.”

The legislation applies three days’ leave to parents, their partners, and parents planning to have a child through adoption or surrogacy.

Many news outlets worldwide have been reporting that New Zealand is the first country ever to pass this law.

However, many people are not aware that the Sindh government also has a similar law passed in 2018.

The Provincial Assembly of Sindh passed the Maternity Law Benefits Act, 2018 (“Act”) to provide much-needed “safeguards to working women’s maternity benefits, proper nursing of a newborn, to maintain job security” and other matters.

It also has a clause in case there is a miscarriage. The law states, In case of miscarriage, there shall be one week of paid leave.
