New Zealand tour of Pakistan in jeopardy over security concerns

New Zealand tour of Pakistan

New Zealand tour of Pakistan might be in danger after the Kiwi players raised security concerns following the Taliban takeover in Afghanistan. Earlier, New Zealand Cricket (NZC) had announced to send a security delegation to assess the security arrangements in the country.

The Kiwis are scheduled to play three ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup Super League ODIs and five Twenty20 Internationals during their tour.

According to a New Zealand’s publication – Stuff – members of the white-ball squad have raised their concerns over the security situation in Pakistan. Reg Dickason – NZC’s longtime independent security consultant – would come to Pakistan for a detailed assessment of the situation.

We’re very comfortable with the process we’ve got, but notwithstanding that, with events in Afghanistan in the last few days, it’s very sad what’s happening in that country and people including players are obviously asking questions of our security check processes. We just need to assure them of the process, and follow it, and reach a determination,” NZ Cricket Players Association boss, Heath Mills said.

Before arriving in Pakistan after 18 years, the New Zealanders will play five Twenty20 Internationals against Bangladesh. The Kiwis had announced their ODI and T20 squads for the two tours  earlier this month.
