New Zealand’s Fast Bowler Comes Out in Support of Sharjeel Khan

“Sharjeel needs a lot of work right now. You can’t judge him on the basis of one or two innings,” Waqar Younis had said.

New Zealand’s fast bowler, Mitchell McClenaghan, has rejected the perception that Sharjeel Khan doesn’t work hard where his fitness is concerned.

The Kiwi fast bowlers statement came following Waqar Younis’ interview, where he mentioned that it would be too early for Sharjeel Khan to be considered for selection in the national cricket team.

“Sharjeel needs a lot of work right now. You can’t judge him on the basis of one or two innings,” Waqar Younis had said.

“He needs to work on his fitness because where are we going to hide him in the field? Fielding is really important these days and especially in Australia where grounds are really big.”

Replying to cricket journalist, Aalia Rasheed, the 33-year-old said that he witnessed Sharjeel Khan work very hard during the Pakistan Super League.

‘‘Give the bloke a break. Witnessed him work very hard off the park every day during PSL. Had minimal rest because he actively wanted to get fitter – often I wondered if he wasn’t trying so hard to lose weight to play for Pakistan would have he performed more consistently with rest?’’ McClenaghan tweeted.

During the PSL 5, the left-handed batsman managed to score 199 runs in 9 innings at an average of 24.87 and a strike-rate of 144.20.
