Newborn’s head left inside mother’s womb during labor, staff members photograph her as she comes out of operation theatre

Medical negligence
According to the district health officer, the incident occurred in Chachro tehsil of Tharparkar. After this, the woman was then taken to Civil Hospital in Mithi, but there were no medical facilities to treat her there.
From there, she was shifted to the Civil Hospital in Hyderabad, where the rest of the body of the newborn was taken out of the mother’s womb, which was crucial in saving her life.
Currently, the woman is in the gynae unit of LUH under the care of Prof. Dr. Raheel Sikandar of Liaquat University of Medical and Health Sciences, Jamshoro.
“The doctor in the unit didn’t opt for the normal procedure to retrieve the baby’s head as the mother’s uterus had been ruptured after the procedure at the Chhachhro hospital,” Dr. Raheel said.
However, her trauma didn’t end there. She was brought out of the operation theatre on a stretcher, where staff members took photos of her and shared them in WhatsApp groups. Prof Sikandar regretted the incident, calling it unfortunate that people photographed a woman in pain without consent.
DG Health orders investigation
DG of Health Sindh, Dr. Juman has ordered an investigation into the matter and said that strict action will be taken against those who were involved in this.
Dr. Zahid Mahmood will supervise a committee of three members, which has been deployed to look into the matter. They will investigate the absence of a gynecologist and female staff members at the RHC in Chachro.
In a notification issued by Sindh DG Health, it was written that the fetus was not in a cephalic position, which is why the head got stuck after delivering the torso, as it was delivered by inexperienced hands.
