NIH warns of an Ebola outbreak in Pakistan, advises institutes to be on high alert

The National Health Organization or NIH has warned that Pakistan could face an Ebola outbreak.

According to the Organization, the virus could travel from the African nation of Uganda to Pakistan. They have also released a formal warning on a potential outbreak across the country, and advised institutions to be on high alert. In just last month, Uganda reported around 36 Ebola cases, 23 of which resulted in fatalities.

The Central Health Establishment will also keep a check on travellers coming from Uganda, and the NIH will also be updated in case any Ebola case arrives in Pakistan. The recent Ebola outbreak in humans has been due to the SUDV virus. Which is why, not only regional, but also international authorities are concerned about Ebola’s spread.

What is Ebola?

Ebola is a deadly virus, which can kill around 90% of the infected patients. There can be multiple symptoms like, body aches, fever, diarrhea and external or internal bleeding.

The virus is highly contagious and was first reported in Africa in 1976. It can be spread if you come in contact with an ill person’s body fluids.
