Accused of ‘stealing voice’: What happened between Singer Nimra Rafique and Actress Nimra Khan?
'I was not asked to give credits until the video went viral'.
Actress Nimra Khan recently posted a video on her Instagram where she can be seen reciting Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan’s ‘Wohi Khuda Hai’.
However, the twist in the story is that it was the famous singer Nimra Rafique’s voice that was used. People could not recognize it because it was a TikTok video and the logo was nowhere to be found.
The video went viral and various publications published it, however, she never clarified that she used someone else’s voice.
After the video went viral and people began to call out her dishonest act of using someone’s voice, posing as her own, without any permission.
“Nimra Khan asked me to take my video down so she could make a TikTok of it and upload it from her Instagram, just to see how many people would like it. I agreed, simply with the condition that she credits me”, Nimra Rafique claimed, while speaking to The Express Tribune.
Nimra Rafique stated that she tried several times to connect with Khan but she never responded. Even after a day, the video was still up and that too uncredited. Therefore, she uploaded the original version but it was not surprising to see people thinking that she copied her voice.
To ease out the tension, Nimra Khan spoke to The Express Tribune and clarified,
“I had no intention of stealing her voice and making it my own. I make several TikToks and upload them without crediting whose voices I’m lip-syncing to. I never thought this would be such a big issue. I honestly got busy because my father in law was unwell and credited her when I found out it had turned into an issue.”
The actress gave credits but the video was later removed from her Instagram handle.
“Nimra Rafique is my friend and the video was not uploaded without her permission. However, I was not asked to give credits until the video went viral”, Khan argued.
