The body of an older man, who went missing in December of 2007, was found during a road construction in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa.

Muhammad Salam was a resident of the Mir Ali tehsil in the North Waziristan district, which was then part of the Federally Administered Tribal Areas (FATA).

Salam was kidnapped and taken away by unknown people 12 years ago after which all efforts to find his whereabouts completely failed.

Local residents informed The Express Tribune that Salam’s remains were found when workers were digging the road construction site.

The man had been buried with clothes, and his NIC was also found in the pocket along with some money which led to his recognition, they said.

“His son was informed who recognized the body parts and clothes of his late father and took the body for burial,” they added.

According to the locals, Salam’s bones were fractured, which is “a sign that he had been tortured before death.”

The family and neighbors also offered the deceased last rites before burying the body.

The reason behind Salam’s gruesome murder is still not known.
