Do you know Pakistan is the ONLY country who does not recognize Armenia? Here’s why
Pakistan does not support the unilateral changing of international borders by force, nor does it agree with Armenia's continued occupation of Azerbaijan.
Pakistan is the only nation in the world that does not recognize Armenia. The former Soviet republic exists and is a member of the United Nations.
Islamabad firmly stands by its stance in response to Yerevan’s outrageous human rights violations against the Azeris of Azerbaijan’s Nagorno-Karabakh region.
The Nagorno-Karabakh dispute is at the core of Pakistan’s resolution. The war lasted from 1988-1994 and remains frozen to this day.
The Armenians of Azerbaijan wanted to unite with their ethnic brethren in nearby Armenia.
The Armenian-Azeri conflict was kept under control by the Soviet authorities until the central government began to crumble in the late 1980s.
Joseph Stalin, a Georgian revolutionary and Soviet politician, placed the majority Armenian area of Nagorno-Karabakh under Azerbaijan’s legislative control as part of his nationality policy.
According to critics, the policy was implemented as a form of divide and rule. As a result, many minorities started worrying about their future.
The Armenian Armed Forces attacked Azerbaijan to support the local Armenians’ withdrawal attempt. As a result, the Armenians’ won the war, and the region has remained de-facto independent since then, but practically all of its Azeri citizens were ethnically cleansed as a result.
The recent clashes along the Armenian-Azerbaijani border have turned global attention to the unresolved conflict.
Pakistan’s excellent relations with Azerbaijan and Turkey played a role in its decision not to recognize Armenia. Moreover, Pakistan does not support the unilateral changing of international borders by force, nor does it agree with Armenia’s continued occupation of Azerbaijan.
Also, Pakistan is against Armenia’s refusal to implement UNSC Resolutions (primary responsibility for the maintenance of international peace and security) on Nagorno-Karabakh and strongly condemns its ethnic cleansing of local Azeris.
