Recently, the USEFP announced its Undergraduate Semester Exchange (UGRAD) Program for the year 2023. However, Pakistan has asked the United States to expand the scale of its scholarship program.

In a meeting with USEFP Executive Director Rita Bruun Akhter, Director-General Mudassir Tipu remarked that the country is keen on strengthening and expanding its engagement with USEFP. This would help to explore diverse and vibrant opportunities for Pakistanis who wish to study at the leading university in the US.

He said that the USEFP may explore increasing the number of scholarships for Pakistanis, along with the scale of the program. The DG also lauded USEFP for running the largest Fulbright Scholarhsip program in Pakistan.

Fulbright scholarships

Rita Bruun Akhter said that ‘Fulbright’ students are a representation of the country’s diversity. She vouched for people with disabilities, students from rural and underrepresented areas and women to be selected on a comprehensive merit basis.

She also acknowledged the role of the Pakistani government in providing support to 25 Fulbright PhD scholars and the US matches this support.

The year 2022 marks the 75th anniversary of the diplomatic relationships between Pak-US and Fulbright Pakistan for over 70 years. During the meeting, the two also shared their ideas to enhance the scope of cooperation with the help of multiple exchange programs. They emphasized that Pakistan and the US were proud of promoting this partnership and promoting higher education.
