Pakistan becomes third-fastest growing market on Amazon, surpassing Canada and Japan
According to reports from an e-commerce intelligence firm, thousands of sellers from Pakistan have joined the marketplace within a year.
One year ago, Pakistan was included on the sellers’ list on Amazon, and since then, it has become the third-fastest growing market on the global marketplace in 2022.
According to reports from an e-commerce intelligence firm, thousands of sellers from Pakistan have joined the marketplace within a year. The country is third among new sellers that joined Amazon’s marketplace in 2022. The US and China are first and second respectively.
The sellers are expected to bring in $23 billion in exports with the cotton textile production and apparel manufacturing being the two largest industries in the country.
The former PTI-led government promulgated the E-Commerce Policy of Pakistan in 2019. In 2020, the Federal Commerce Ministry, headed by SAPM Abdul Razzak Dawood, started negotiations with Amazon. This resulted in Amazon including Pakistan on its sellers’ list in 2021.
Other countries on Amazon’s top ten sellers list are:
- the United Kingdom
- Turkey
- Canada
- Vietnam
- India
- Brazil
- Japan
Pakistan is also home to the world’s largest Amazon seller groups, eCommerce by Enablers, Extreme Commerce by Sunny Ali, and Ecommerce Success Pakistan. These groups started long before Pakistan was allowed on the sellers’ list.
With this development, entrepreneurs and small and medium-sized companies across the country will avail benefits offered by the platform, which will diversify Pakistan’s exports. This will enhance revenue and improve the macroeconomic outlook.
