Pakistan finalizes multi billion dollar railway project with China

The iron brother Pakistan, and China have finalized a multi-billion dollar railway project of China Pakistan Economic Corridor. The news about the project was revealed by Pakistan’s Railway Minister Sheikh Rashid Ahmed who also accompanied the premier on the visit to China.

CPEC is a several billion-dollar Chinese project according to which it would spend a huge amount for the construction of a transportation network linking Pakistan to the outer world.

The infrastructure project is seen as a game-changer for Pakistan as it will provide road and rail access to the other countries providing an opportunity by increased connectivity, bilateral trade and would increase people to people contact.

While talking to the Chinese media the minister told that he held a meeting with his Chinese’ counterpart and concluded the project. “I held a meeting with my Chinese counterpart this morning and finalized the project,” read a statement by railway minister while he was at Diaoyutai State Guest House.

The minister also expressed gratitude to the premier for taking interest in the project and said that he had shared copies of a feasibility report of ML-2 Project with the Chinese counterpart. The minister also said that they are planning to start working on the fast train project soon after the completion of ML-1 within the next 3 to 4 years.

Railway Minister also told that the completion of the ML-1 Project will increase the speed of trains from existing 65-105 km/hour to 120-160 km/hour, with freight volume jumping from six tonnes to 35 tonnes per year by 2025 and railway’s share increasing in freight transport to about 20 percent from less than 4 percent at present.

The minister also notified about the length of the railway track from Karachi to Peshawar to be at around 1,800 kilometers and also said that the new signaling system would be installed.
