Pakistan fines Qatar Airways for Violating SOPS after Passenger tests Positive for COVID-19

The government of Pakistan has imposed a fine of Rs100,000 on Qatar Airways for violating the standard operating procedures (SOPs) for the prevention of Covid-19 on its flight.

Qatar Airways launches all business class London Heathrow - Doha flight – London Air TravelAviation Division spokesperson Abdul Sattar Khokhar in a press release said on Friday the authorities had taken an urgent notice of the violation, which had put the passengers’ health and safety as well as personnel operating at the airport at risk.

He said the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) imposed a fine of Rs100,000 on the Qatar Airways.
The airline shall also be accountable for all expenses sustained on the testing of Covid-19 and quarantine of the passengers and the staff, he said.

The CAA has already demanded the airlines operating flights from and to Pakistan to ensure compliance with the SOPs devised and implemented to protect passengers from contracting the virus.

Meanwhile, Aviation Minister Ghulam Sarwar Khan chaired a meeting regarding the outsourcing of major airports and aviation division, the spokesman said.

Mr. Khan was informed that according to the directions of the cabinet, an audit firm should be hired in the early phase to carry on the process following the best international practices.

  • 100,000/00 fine is a joke. It should have been a billion for risking the lives of 200 passengers. Aalternately the flights should have been suspended for week.

    If you want to screen incoming passengers put in a 2 day test condition. If someone is already positive before boarding the flight he will still have COVID when getting off, regardless of him following the SOP or not! Its not the fault of the airline, how did the authorities even reach the conclusion??
