Pakistan opens its largest defense expo IDEAS 2022 in collaboration with 57 countries

Pakistan just opened its largest defense expo ever with the purpose of increasing exports and improving defense collaboration. It showcased the latest weapon systems, fighter jets, and drones.

The International Defense Exhibition and Seminar (IDEAS 2022) went on for four days. It opened at the Karachi Expo Center and brought 300 top national and international manufacturers along with more than 300 foreign delegates from 57 countries on one platform. The biennial event was delayed for four years due to the global pandemic.

IDEAS 2022 featured advanced military software and hardware with a primary focus on technologies such as artificial intelligence. In the words of the head of the country’s Defence Export Promotion Organization (DEPO), Maj. Gen Mohammad Arif Malik, Defence manufacturers from multiple countries such as Turkey, the US, the UK, China, European Union, Central Asia, the Middle East, and Africa showcased their items at the 11th edition of the expo.

IDEAS – Pakistan’s leading regional defense platform

IDEAS is one of the country’s leading events that unite the global defense industry. Gen Arif Malik stated that the innovation and excellence exhibited here would make way for defense collaboration among partners and friends.

He focused on the crucial role of the private sector in the development of the defense industry.

Foreign Minister, Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, inaugurated IDEAS 2022. He said that IDEAS is an ideal platform to showcase the latest defense technologies.  ‘It is a regional gateway for international suppliers and manufacturers to explore new avenues of defense cooperation,’ he added further. He emphasized the fact that Pakistan’s defense industry achieved an ample level of quality, competency, and reliability in the international market.

The country is now exporting defense products to more than 50 countries. However, the volume of exports was in no way the reflection of the country’s actual potential due to the limited involvement of the private sector and very small attention to research and development.
