Pakistan to purchase ‘MA700 Turboprop Aircraft’ from China

MA700 is is best suited for short runway conditions, high-altitudes, and high temperatures.

Xian Aircraft Industrial Corporation, a subsidiary company of Aviation Industry Corporation of China (AVIC) is now working to build a shoulder-winged turboprop-powered airliner. The new airliner is known as Modern Ark 700 (MA700) and has the capacity to operate in complex flight environments. 

Along with Bahrain, Combodia, South Africa and Saudi Arabia, Pakistan is also among the countries who are lined up to acquire the $25 million MA700. The airliner will be available by 2022.

Specifications:

MA700 is powered by two Pratt & Whitney Canada PW150C turboprop engines generating 5100 horsepower and is best suited for short runway conditions, high-altitudes, and high temperatures.

The aircraft has a capacity of accommodating 86 passengers. It can reach a maximum speed of 640 km/h and has a range of up to 2700 km. The medium-range twin-engine aircraft is a direct competitor to French ATR 72, Ilyushin IL-114, and Canadian Bombardier Q Series. The company aims at capturing 20% share in the global turboprop regional aircraft market by 2026.

A deal for PIA:

The capabilities and qualities of the aircraft make it an ideal addition for PIA’s domestic flights. It can also prove to be useful for Pakistan Army’s aviation wing and Pakistan Air Force as it has the qualities that makes it possible for operate in difficult situations.

The Global Times reveals that the company has already received 285 intended orders from 11 clients. Pakistan is the third member of the MA series.
