The Sindh government has been seeking investments from Saudi Arabian financers to build a desert safari on Dubai’s model.
The Thar Desert is the 17th largest desert in the world. Earlier this year, the provincial government had stated it was exploring options for investment in the tourism sector from Saudi Arabia.
Following this, the Sindh Minister for Culture and Tourism, Syed Sardar Ali Shah, said, “I invite Arab investors to invest in Sindh as we share common localities like deserts. We would support and facilitate them.”

The Southern province is home to several important cultural, religious, and ancient sites that attract tourists.
An academic from Karachi named Mujahid Shah describes Sindh tourism, saying, “Sindh has vast domestic tourism opportunities from Karachi to the desert region of Tharparkar. It has every kind of tourism destination, from religious sites, the shrines of Sufi saints, to hills and lakes.”
However, Shah is convinced that the foothills of the Karoonjhar Mountains in the Tharparkar district are the most attractive tourism destination.
The mountains that have a range of over 30 kilometers contain huge heaps of high-quality granite. The Sindh government has also been planning to declare this mountainous area a heritage site.
Shah added, tourism peaks between November and March in the region when thousands of tourists turn to Nagarparkar to visit the historic Churro Jabal Durga Mata Hindu temple, the Jain temples, and the Bhodisar Mosque.
During the peak period, a resort room in Nagarparkar costs around PKR 8000 for a single night stay.
