Pakistan will start manufacturing DNA & Forensic Test Kits this year. Chairman National Forensic Science Commission (NFSC) Dr. Shoaib Suddle announced that by the end of 2020, Pakistan will begin manufacturing DNA and forensic test kits locally.
Previously, the products were imported. The country imported more than 11,000 DNA and forensic test kits for casework and research purposes. During a meeting, Chairman NFSC revealed that these imports cost millions to the national exchequer.
‘’The need for indigenous cheap, reliable DNA and forensic test kits is at an all-time high’’, he said.
NFSC’s aim is to invite internationally-trained Pakistani forensic experts to help achieve this goal. The commission wants to invite investors for bulk production and marketing the kits.
A four-stage work plan has been put forth by Dr. Shaoib to start manufacturing the test kits. The commission will include local laboratories having the important equipment to produce these test kits.
Secretary NFSC Dr. Allah Rakha said that the need for forensic science in a criminal investigation is increasing. Pakistan’s investigation agencies are already using toxicology, DNA analysis and advanced fingerprint detection in investigations.
