The Pakistan Halal Authority (PHA)  is intending to target international markets for the export of halal products.

The Director-General of Pakistan Halal Authority, Dr. Muhammad Tariq Masood said, “Pakistan with 160 million livestock is among top livestock producing countries. However, unfortunately, the country has a minimal share in the $ 3 trillion estimated livestock product output including milk, beef, mutton, poultry meat, eggs, wool, hair, skin, hides, and bones.”

While talking to a source, the Director-General said, Muslims residing in foreign countries are more concerned about the availability of Halal meat as compared to the people living in Muslim countries.

A large number of Muslims are living in western countries, which has increased the need for Halal meat significantly.

Fifth largest dairy producer

The Joint Scientific Advisor of the Ministry of Science and Technology, Tariq Masood, said that Pakistan has a huge potential in livestock, poultry, and the dairy sector as it is the fifth-largest dairy producer in the world. By introducing reforms and policies, the country could export Halal products worth $5 to $6 billion a year.

Masood further said, since the Gulf countries had lifted their ban on Pakistan poultry imports imposed in 2004 due to bird flu incidents, it is the perfect time for the country to expand export to the Gulf and other countries in the world.

Dynamic Reforms

The PHA started working in July because of the dynamic reforms of the current government though; the enactment for this authority was implemented in the year 2016.

The enrollment procedure of 50 members of  staff is still under-process after which, the authority will be operational.
