Dr. Naqeeb Khalid, a Pakistani-Canadian medical practitioner, has developed an app that runs a quick diagnostic test for COVID-19. His app is operational on smartphones and gives instantaneous test results. In addition, he said that it also stores and communicates results accompanied by their times, as well as GPS information.
Khalid believes that it is absolutely imperative in controlling the pandemic that instant, correct, and inexpensive testing takes place. He was also commended on his innovation by the High Commissioner of Pakistan to Canada, Raza Bashir Tarar in a video conversation.
A convenient and affordable way of testing:
Tarar expressed that Khalid’s invention could be extremely beneficial to the world given its high level of convenience, accessibility, and affordability. He also highlighted the app’s usefulness when it comes to other global outbreaks such as dengue.
According to the High Commissioner, the app’s effectiveness in detecting Covid-19 would be ascertained through clinical trials. In case it receives required approvals, it could be used by the masses, being available on the AppStore.
Khalid graduated from the King Edward Medical University in 1983. He has gained a lot of experience in the development of medical devices and systems over the years.
