The Pakistani company aims to invest in the facility and expand the business into a state-of-the-art design and production hub, based on 360 design development solutions and Supply Chain 4.0 principles.

The new factory expands the Artistic Milliners’ international footprint and accelerates the company’s speed-to-market capabilities while providing design-at-source at a time when businesses have halted travel during the coronavirus outbreak.

As the first Pakistani denim company with an operational factory near Los Angeles, Artistic Milliners is raising Pakistan’s profile as a sourcing destination.

Under the factory’s new name Star Fades International (SFI), the business will continue to provide finishing services to a customer roster that ranges from large global retailers to speciality premiums.

“The acquisition provides us a strategic foothold in the U.S., in a region with significant demographic and geographic advantages,” said Murtaza Ahmed, Founder SFI and Executive Director Artistic Milliners.

According to Murtaza, SFI can process 100,000 units per month and plans to increase that capacity to 300,000 units/month.

The company can achieve such results due to its “solid foundation of a denim washhouse with a reputation for quality service, leading-edge technology, and a regional team with extensive denim experience.”

The company currently offers a range of wet and dry processing capabilities, as well as sustainable finishing technologies, including E-Flow, lasers, and ozone machines.

This is to create authentic and innovative finishes while reducing the amount of water and chemicals used in a typical denim laundry.

“The SFI acquisition serves as a major jump in the evolution of Artistic Milliners’ as a truly international denim company because it adds various dimensions to our operating model,” said Omer Ahmed, CEO, Artistic Milliners, and co-founder, SFI.

It is forecast that in 2021, there will be a significant boost in demand from global retailers and brands for near-shoring capacity, sustainable solutions, and digital design services.

“Our investment in this factor gives us a launch platform in the U.S. to meet the demand as we establish the factory for the future,” Murtaza added.

Artistic Milliners has expanded from a small retail store, established in Karachi in 1949, to become one of the world’s top manufacturers of denim.

The company ranked third in the Top 10 list of Pakistani textile exporters in 2017-2018 and has an annual turnover of $256 million (more than PKR 41.25 Arab).

The company also employs 19,860 people in 17 factories and mills in Korangi Industrial Area (Karachi) and other industrial areas.
