The story is about four women embarking on a journey of self-discovery, empowerment, and sisterhood.
A new Pakistani web series titled ‘Churails,’ directed by Pakistani filmmaker Asim Abbasi, aims to question the hypocrisy of patriarchal societies vanquishing women and their rights, is all set to release on 11th of August.
The story is about four women embarking on a journey of self-discovery, empowerment, and sisterhood. They come together to open a covert detective agency to expose their cheating husbands among the city’s elites. The storyline highlights myriad issues such as sexism, child abuse, class domination, and race.
“I believe ‘Churails’ is a timely show with pertinent themes that will resonate with audiences globally,” said Abbasi.
The show features Mehar Bano, Sarwat Gilani, Yasra Rizvi, and Nimra Bucha in pivotal roles.
In a recent interview, Sarwat Gillani said, “A show that is the voice of women!”.
“The themes of women’s rights and societal issues will be portrayed as thought-provoking realities, as questions so the audience can think about what is happening and how it can be fixed first on a personal, and then on a social level,” she added.
Abbasi is well known for his 2018 debut feature film “Cake” that made to Best Foreign Language Film award at the 91st Oscars. The comedy-drama, however, could not make the final cut.
“Churails” marks Abbasi’s debut on the digital platform. With 10 episodes in the first season, the series will be available virtual platform and web channel, Zee5.
