Pakistan’s hockey Dutch coach decides to observe fast with the players
The Pakistan hockey team players were allowed to go home from the national camp to be with their families on the first Ramadan.
Despite the long and hot days of Ramadan, many sports athletes prefer observing fast even when they are playing. We have seen a number of Muslim athletes breaking their fast in the middle of a game.
Last year, a video of Turkish football players breaking their first in the middle of the match went viral. This year, the Dutch coach of the Pakistan hockey team Siegfried Aikman will also be observing fast despite working in the daytime.
The Pakistan hockey team players were allowed to go home from the national camp to be with their families on the first Ramadan. Siegfried Aikman took to his Twitter account to share that he is observing his first-ever fast.
He said that as a coach of the Pakistan national hockey team, he feels obliged to at least try to join the team in their fasting. He termed it a special experience and added that he will continue fasting for the rest of the week.
Today is my 1st ever fasting experience. As coach from the Pakistan Men’s hockeyteam I feel obliged to at least try to join the team in their fasting. It’s a special experience. Apart from a little headache I feel very good and I will continue fasting for the rest of this week.
