Pakistan’s regional exports surge by 20.5% in the first month of fiscal year FY22

However, Pakistan's exports to some regional countries fell due to various reasons.

This was revealed by the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP).

According to the SBP, Pakistan’s exports to regional countries, such as Afghanistan, China, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, India, Nepal, and the Maldives, accounted for $282.020 million in July 2021.

The South Asian country’s regional exports made up 12.49% of its total exports of $2257.042 million in July 2021.

Like always, China topped the list of being the number one destination of Pakistan’s regional exports.

The South Asian country’s exports to the East Asian country surged to $165.878 million in July 2021 from $106.775 million in July 2020, witnessing a whopping growth of 55.26%.

Likewise, Pakistan’s exports to its former territory — Bangladesh — surged to $51.033million from $48.297 million in the same period, increasing by 5.66%.

Similarly, Pakistan’s exports to the Teardrop of India — Sri Lanka — increased from $15.420 million to $235.991 million in the same period, rising by a healthy 68.55%.

Meanwhile, Pakistan’s exports to Afghanistan fell by 38.57%, from $62.774 million to $38.557million in the same period.

The exports to Afghanistan fell in July as the Wesh-Chaman border between the two countries was closed due to the Taliban’s takeover of the border town of Spin Boldak on the Afghan side.

However, after the Taliban took control of the Afghan capital of Kabul, trade between the two countries is increasing this month.

Similarly, Pakistan’s exports to its rival neighbor India declined from $0.443 million to $0.054 million in the same period, plunging by a whopping 87.81%

It is pertinent to note that all trade relations with India have been suspended.

Likewise, Pakistan’s exports to the Roof of the World — Nepal — fell from 0.454 million to $0.273 million in the same period, dipping by 39.86%.
