With her absolutely remarkable performance, Pakpattan’s first female SHO Kulsoom Fatima has made the headlines for all the right reasons. Setting a new precedent and shattering the stereotypical image of Pakistani women, Fatima has become an example for women in LEAs as well as all over the country.
When you passionately feel about something, do something about it – this is exactly what Fatima believed in. For years her soul burnt for the minor girls who are brutally subjected to sexual abuse, but rather than sitting and waiting for things to change, she herself took the lead and became part of the change process.
During an interview with British Broadcasting Channel (BBC), Fatima said that the abuse of minor girls and women always made her angry, but she was in no position to make an impact.
My anger or words could not protect the minor girls.
So she decided to take the lead and appeared for competitive exams and cleared them. She then joined the police for and was appointed as sub-inspector in Punjab Police. She vowed to do all she could for the suffering women.
“I got the opportunity. I was appointed as a sub-inspector in Punjab Police after passing the competitive exams,” she told.
She was handed over the cases dealing with women and minor girls – a task she always wanted to do. District Police Officer (DPO) Pakpattan, Ibadat Nisar appointed Fatima as SHO at Model Police Station Daloryam. With being Pakpattan’s first female SHO, her remarkable performance is not only an example for women in forces but for Pakistani women overall as well.
