Parents protest against private schools and colleges charging fees in USD instead of PKR

All Sindh Parent’s Association has held a protest against private schools and colleges in the province. The purpose of the protest was to speak against the illegal practices of the educational institutes.

Details have revealed that the protest was organized outside the Government Women’s College Shahrah-e-Liaquat at Burns Road.

The protestors’ demands

ASPA tabled 27 demands in total. Some of these have been discussed below.

The parents complained that the private institutes demand them to pay fees in US Dollars instead of Pakistani Rupees. According to them, it is an injustice and they want the institutes to charge fees in Pakistani Rupees.

Other than this, the parents also said that they are forced to buy textbooks, copies, and uniforms from chosen outlets, which is against the law. They urge the authorities to take action against the private schools and colleges and compensate their money.

The protestors also revealed that the institutes have done a fee hike of 30% this year. This is also in violation of the previous decisions of the Supreme Court of Pakistan (SCP). They demand that this decision should also be reversed. Moreover, they also change their uniforms every two years which is also financially stressful for the parents.

The protestors added that these private schools and colleges charge an advance fee for the two months of summer vacations that they give which makes a total of 13 months instead of 12.

The parents who were a part of the protest voiced their concerns. They want the formation of the Parents Teacher Association (PTA) as early as possible.
