'Pashtoon Heroes': Meet Bilawal Dawar, a 12-year-old Pashtun writer who is breaking stereotypes!

Other than writing, Bilawal loves to explore historical sites of Peshawar.

The Pakistan Silver Lining (PKSL), a group aiming to positively influence Pakistani policymakers and promote ideas that benefit Pakistan’s future, recently highlighted the newest installment to the Pride of Pakistan: Bilawal Latif.

Bilawal Latif is a 12-year-old student from Peshawar, who has taken up the responsibility to smash stereotypes against Pathans. Under this objective, the young reader and history buff wrote and published a book titled ‘Pashtoon Heroes’. Bilawal’s book talks about the most celebrated Pathan personalities.

Speaking to a media outlet, the young author said:

I wrote the book because I wanted to bring pride to the Pashtoon people. There is a misconception in the West that Pashtoons are illiterate, and I want this thinking to end. My book includes stories of great warriors such as Ahmed Shah Abdali and more. The Pashtoons genuinely remember these people.

Talking about his book-writing journey, Bilawal told the media that it took him three years to write the book. He said:

If you want to write a good book, you have to do a lot of research, fact-check things and take out references. My favorite authors, whom I have taken inspiration from, include Olaf Core and Ghani Khan.

Little Bilawal was born and brought up in Waziristan. He moved to Peshawar with his family in 2014, after militancy spread in the region. These factors motivated him to write about Peshawar. The fact that his best friends were libraries, books, and evening strolls with nature further built up his motivation.

Other than writing, Bilawal loves to explore the historical sites of Peshawar.

The good news is that Bilawal Latif has already started working on his second book. This book will be based on the people of Balochistan. The young writer says:

I want to explore the people and culture of all provinces of Pakistan and write on them.

Many people took to twitter to appreciate the young author.

While many people praised the writer, quite a few people called out the government and media. They argued how the authorities were not just in appreciating the young talent of Pakistan.

We wish young Bilawal the best of luck for future endeavors.
