‘She did what no one could’: How a few seconds long video brought Pakistan and India closer

A 19-year-old Pakistani content creator, Dananeer Mubeen, shot to fame after her short video clip went viral on the internet across the subcontinent.

A 19-year-old Pakistani content creator, Dananeer Mubeen, shot to fame after her short video clip went viral on the internet across the subcontinent.

The five-second video shot by the influencer in northern Pakistan’s Nathaigali mountains shows a group of youngsters enjoying themselves by the roadside.

While recording the video, Dananeer signals behind her and says in Urdu, “This is our car, this is us, and this is our party taking place.”

In the video, she deliberately mispronounces the English word “party” as “pawri” to poke fun at Pakistanis who adopt Western accents. It immediately struck a chord in Pakistan and India, sparking top trending hashtags on social media and earning millions of views and hundreds of recreations.

‘Pawri’ Recreations in India

Indian police have used ” Pawri” monologue renditions and the Delhi Commission for Women in their campaigns.

In one video, popular Bollywood actors Ranveer Singh and Deepika Padukone each did a version that also went viral.

The Indian dairy company Amul, known for showing popular takes on current issues in its advertisements, did a “this is our pav-tea” version, attributing to a popular bread snack eaten with tea.

Speaking to local media, Mubeen said, “It was the most random video. Initially, I had no intention of uploading it.”

Dananeer added, “I am honored and grateful for all the love across the border.”

She also expressed her happiness at fostering some rare friendly cross-border dialogue.

Since the video went viral, Mubeen said she had been inundated with requests for product endorsements, acting, and modeling offers. Instead, the content creator says she aspires to join Pakistan’s foreign services.
