The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has announced a 15 member squad for the upcoming New Zealand, England series and the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2021. Shoaib Malik, Sarfaraz Ahmed and Haider Ali couldn’t make it to the England, New Zealand series and the mega event’s squad.

Here’s Pakistan Cricket Team Squad For the England, New Zealand Series and ICC Men’s T20 World Cup:

Star batsman Babar Azam will lead the Pakistan cricket team during their upcoming assignments. The three most surprising inclusions are Asif Ali, Khushdil Shah and Azam Khan.

Asif Ali has represented Pakistan in 29 T20 matches but he has failed to perform as he averages just 16.38 with the bat. On the other hand, Khushdil Shah also averages just over 21 in his nine T20 matches for the men in green.

Six players, including Arshad Iqbal, Faheem Ashraf, Fakhar Zaman, Sarfaraz Ahmed, Sharjeel Khan and Usman Qadir, who were part of the England and the West Indies series have been dropped from the squad.

Fakhar Zaman, Shahnawaz Dahani and Usman Qadir have been added as the reserve players in the squad.

Chief selector Muhammad Wasim admitted the lack of performances by Asif Ali and Khushdil Shah but hoped that they will live up to the expectations of the team management.

“Asif Ali and Khushdil Shah may not have impressive numbers against their names but hardly anyone can doubt their tremendous talent and prowess. They are the best in the available pool of middle-order batsmen and we remain confident that they will provide us solutions to our middle-order difficulties through solid performances.

“These two experienced middle-order batters will compliment Babar Azam, Mohammad Hafeez, Mohammad Rizwan and Shoaib Maqsood, while in Imad Wasim, Mohammad Nawaz and Shadab Khan, we have three top-quality spinners who are equally good with the bat and outstanding in the field,” Muhammad Wasim added.

The Chief selector added that Azam Khan’s ability of aggressive and attacking batting has earned him a place over the former captain Sarfaraz Ahmed. Regarding Mohammad Wasim Junior selection over Faheem Ashraf, he said that he has been preferred for his his pace and ability to hit big shots.

“Our impressive record in the United Arab Emirates, clubbed with the talent we have in our ranks and the well-planned preparations gives me significant confidence that we will perform well in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2021. All the players now need to do is not to get overawed by the occasion, continue to keep faith in their abilities and try to give something extra each time they step onto the field.”
