The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) eyes on former skipper Wasim Akram to take charge as chairman of the cricket committee. According to the sources, the body approached the cricketer because he is “a strong candidate for the job”.

Following the resignation of Wasim Khan, the senior members of the board approached Akram to solve the cricket committee woes. Wasim Akram is currently a member of the cricket committee. According to the sources, the PCB officials will make a decision during the next 15 days after the discussion with the committee members prior to the Bangladesh series.

After resignation, Khan informed that the vacant post will be held by a former cricketer only.  “There should be autonomy and the chairman should be independent,” Khan said.

To improve the cricket structure, Chairman Ehsan Mani earlier said that two former cricketers would be recruited. “We will be appointing two former cricketers in the committee,” he previously said.

The committee consists of three former cricketers and three PCB officials. However, a change in the committee structure has been hinted as well.

“There will be only one PCB member, who will act as a bridge between the cricket committee and the cricket officials,” Mani said.
