PEMRA Serves Notice To Najam Sethi For Making Up Fake News About PM Imran Khan

Apparently Imran Khan and Najam Sethi are locking horns again. This time it is not about PCB or 35 punctures but has to do with  Imran Khan. According to a press release, PEMRA has sent a notice to Najam Sethi for allegedly lying about PM Imran Khan.

The PM, through his lawyer Babar Awan, has filed a complaint in PEMRA, which indicated he is very upset with this privacy intrusion and he wants to give a clear message that the story broken by Najam Sethi in his show is purely fabricated and far from reality.

The press release reads:

PEMRA, in pursuance to the recommendations of Council of Complaints Islamabad made in its 49th meeting dated April 24, 2019 in the matter of complaint lodged by Mr. Imran Khan, Prime Minister of Pakistan through M/s Babar Awan & Associates against ‘Channel-24’ / M/s Central Media (Pvt.) Ltd. has decided in terms of Clause 18 of the Electronic Media (Programmes and Advertisements) Code of Conduct 2015, that the Channel and its anchor should air apology within seven days from the date of issuance of this order, during the prime time in the same programme, to its audience in the same magnitude as the allegations were aired, besides running text scrolls to the same effect for propagating false news about Prime Minister of Pakistan. The apology, including that in audio visual and text scroll form, should clearly refer to in its subjective context without repeating the afore-noted news item.

ii. The Channel is also directed to deposit a sum of rupees one million as fine in favor of PEMRA within seven days of the date of issuance of this order.

iii. In case of failure to comply with the above orders either in partial or as a whole, the programme titled “Najam sethi ke sath” shall remain prohibited for a period of thirty days.

iv. If the channel fails to comply with the afore-stated directives, it will be construed that the channel is willfully defiant and subsequently the proceeding shall be initiated to suspend and / revoke the license.

Lets see how the senior journalist responds to this move by PM Khan. It is to be seen that Najam stands by his story, produces a source, simply renders an apology, or maybe things will get even more interesting?
