PIA: Local fares reduced again, DG CAA vows to take action against SOP violations

Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) has decreased the fares for all domestic flights for the second time this week. On June the 30th, PIA reduced the one-way ticket from Rs. 16,500 to Rs. 12,000 for all domestic destinations. The national flag carrier has now fixed the new one-way fare at Rs. 11,525, including taxes, for all the local destinations.

Authorities report that this new local destination fare will be applicable immediately. A PIA spokesperson stated:

The airline has decided to reduce local fares further to facilitate the passengers.

Action Against Airlines

The authorities have issued SOPs for airlines to curb the spread of Covid-19. The Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) has decided to take strict action against the airlines violating these SOPs.

The Deputy Director-General Pakistan Civil Aviation Authority (DG CAA) wrote a letter to all airport managers expressing his disappointment. The letter mentioned repeated instances of airlines violating the SOPs for international, chartered, and private flights.

The letter stated:

All concerned airport managers are directed to liaise with respective chairman Air Operators\\’ Certificate (AOC) to ensure probe into negligence in this regard and streamline the implementation of the SOPs.

Following the letter, the Deputy DG CAA warned all airlines. He said:

Any future infringement of the latest directives will be dealt with according to the law and might lead to the suspension of the in question airline\\’s operating permit.
