The Ehsaas Education Stipends program will be rolled out nationwide across all districts, structured along the lines of Ehsaas’ Stipend policy that incentivizes higher stipend amounts for girls compared to boys.

A press release stated:

Under the Ehsaas Education Stipends, primary school boys and girls will receive quarterly stipends of Rs. 1,500 and Rs. 2,000; secondary school boys and girls will receive Rs. 2,500 and Rs. 3,000; and higher secondary level boys and girls will receive Rs. 3,500 and Rs. 4,000 a quarter, respectively.

According to details, all education stipends will be paid biometrically to mothers on the attainment of 70 percent attendance of their children.

In an official statement, Dr. Sania Nishtar, Special Assistant to Prime Minister and Federal Minister, Poverty Alleviation and Social Safety Ministry, said:

Ehsaas is committed to lifting the poorest families in Pakistan out of poverty and helping them achieve their potential by serving the unserved area of secondary and higher secondary education. Also, as part of the ‘Post-Covid-Ehsaas Strategy’, Ehsaas Education Stipends will empower deserving families to overcome financial barriers in accessing higher education.

She further stated:

Safeguarding that girls are not underrepresented in higher education, the Ehsaas Education Stipends is fully skewed towards girls, offering higher stipend amounts for them.

Poverty is one of the most persistent barriers to acquiring education in Pakistan. With the government’s new initiative, people are hopeful that Pakistan’s literacy rate will rise to an acceptable rate soon.
