PM Khan reveals story behind ‘I’m sorry I won the car’ shirt
The Prime Minister and Former Cricketer, Imran Khan, has shared a memorable newspaper clip on his Instagram account and disclosed that he was awarded the title of the “International Cricketer of the Year” in 1989.
Khan also revealed that he won a $72,000 Rover car and the title for which the Australian Press unnecessarily criticized him.
According to details, the news article reported that the former Pakistani skipper became the first Asian cricketer to win the award since its inception in 1979. Moreover, Khan was the eighth foreign player to receive the major prize.
However, the announcement did not settle well with the then Australian cricket captain, Allan Border, who said that the award should have been given to his teammate Dean Jones.
The article further revealed that when Khan went out to toss with Border at the MCG for the first of the best of three finals, he wore a specially designed T-shirt saying, “I am sorry I won the car.”
During the presentation speech, Imran had embarrassed Allan Border by revealing that the Rover 827 Vitesse’s profits were to be donated to the cancer hospital Khan was setting up in Lahore at the time.
