Recently, the Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Faisal Vawda appeared  on the Samaa News program, ‘Nadeem Malik Live’. During the talk show, the PTI leader revealed that Prime Minister (PM) Imran Khan was unaware of the government’s agreement with Tehreek-i-Labbaik Pakistan (TLP), which was signed in November 2020.

The Tehreek-i-Labbaik agreement

The TLP announced that the government had accepted all its four demands in Nov 2020. A spokesman for the TLP released a copy of the handwritten agreement carrying signatures of Minister for Religious Affairs Pir Noorul Qadri, Interior Minister Ijaz Shah, and the deputy commissioner, Islamabad.

The agreement stated:

  • The government will make a Parliament decision regarding the expulsion of the French ambassador within three months.
  • The government will not appoint its ambassador to France.
  • The government will release all the arrested workers of the TLP.
  • The government will not register any case against the TLP leaders or workers even after it calls off the sit-in.

Why was Prime Minister Imran Khan unaware of the agreement?

While speaking to anchorperson Nadeem Malik, Faisal Vawda said:

PM was not informed. PM’s consent was not in this agreement. I am referring to the first agreement; I don’t know the details of the second one.

Malik questioned Vawda:

Why wasn’t he [PM] aware?

To this, Vawda replied:

If I have been sent for negotiations, I will do as I see fit as per the situation and inform PM later of what happened.

Nadeem Malik interjected:

This can only happen if the PM has empowered you. Otherwise, you can’t.

Faisal Vawda justified:

No, why did I go to negotiate then? If I am bogus, I cannot do anything; why did I go?

It is pertinent to mention that shortly after the talk show, Faisal Vawda took to Twitter and said:

The ministers who went for the negotiations with the TLP should take the responsibility themselves, rather than putting it on the prime minister.

The tweet affirmed his statement on the talk show and showcased that he genuinely believed in taking personal responsibility. However, the PTI leader deleted the tweet after some time. The reason behind this is not known yet.
