PM Khan gives one week deadline to formulate a plan for 5G, fiberization
Prime Minister directed to formulate a plan for the launch of the 5G spectrum; connecting mobile phone towers through fiberization in big cities.
Prime Minister Imran Khan has given a week to relevant authorities to prepare a comprehensive plan for fiberization, 5G and the promotion and development of information technology in the country.
The Prime Minister was chairing a meeting on the promotion of Information Technology, attended by Commerce Advisor Abdul Razak Dawood, The PM’s Special Assistant Dr. Firdous Ashiq Awan, Co-chairman Prime Minister Task Force for IT and Telecom, Dr. Ata ur Rehman, and secretaries for Information Technology, Commerce, Cabinet, and Finance Divisions.
During the meeting, the Prime Minister directed to formulate a plan for the launch of the 5G spectrum; connecting mobile phone towers through fiberization in big cities, and defining timelines for removing hurdles in the promotion of the IT sector.
The premier said that the government is committed to providing every kind of support to the country’s skilled youth for a better future. He also appreciated the vast talent the country has in the IT sector and acknowledged that by providing better opportunities, the government would be able to generate millions of jobs.
The Secretary for Information Technology, Shoaib Siddiqi, briefed the prime minister about different steps the ministry has taken for the promotion of information technology in Pakistan. A representative of the State Bank of Pakistan informed the PM that the due process of implementing the decision regarding increasing the foreign remittance to 25,000 dollars for freelancers would be completed within a few days.
He said that the freelancers would be given maximum incentives on their foreign earnings. He further added that for freelancers, the exchange of foreign currency into local currency will be made at the inter-bank rate.
