Politician’s brave initiative saves the life of an abandoned newborn girl
Amal was seven days old when she was found in the garbage.
A member of the Provincial Assembly of Sindh and an Education Activist, Rabia Azfar Nizami, shared the challenges she had faced while helping an abandoned newborn girl.
In a Facebook post, Nizami shared, “Amal was only seven days old when she was found in the garbage on the 30th of November 2019. Our organization took custody of the girl following child protection SOPs.”
The Education Activist added, “Many people had suggested to handover Amal to an Orphanage or to the Edhi orphanage. However, I took a firm stand as it has been written in the law that abandoned children are the State’s responsibility.
Speaking about the rewarding outcome of the initiative, Nizami said, Amal underwent three surgeries in the first few months of her life. She is now a seven month old healthy and active baby living in an Orphanage under proper care.
