Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Provincial Government Allocates Rs. 300 billion for reforms in tribal districts
The development portfolio contains 168 projects and interventions separately conceived, monitored and funded from the traditional Annual Development Programme (ADP).
The provincial government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has decided to spend over Rs. 300 billion for reforms in tribal districts in the next three years.
The plan is a part of the 3-year-long Accelerated Implementation Programme. It was presented during a ceremony at a policy dialogue organized by the provincial government with partners. The special ceremony was held in Islamabad.
Provincial Finance Minister Taimur Saleem Jhagra, Chief Secretary Dr Kazim Niaz, Additional Chief Secretary Shakeel Qadir Khan, representatives of donor agencies (World Bank, DFID Asian Development Bank and GiZ), and foreign diplomats were also present at the dialogue.
The first three years of the project are covered by the AIP under Tribal Decade Strategy (TDS) 2020-30. It consists of 168 projects in 19 sectors for a long-lasting development of the merged districts. The strategy document shows that during the on-going fiscal year, the KP government has allocated Rs. 83 billion for this purpose.
‘’The AIP translates the (TDS) into actionable initiatives over the first three years emerging on the perspective planning horizon,” the document read.
The development portfolio contains 168 projects and interventions separately conceived, monitored and funded from the traditional Annual Development Programme (ADP). The goal is to lay the foundations for sustainable development for merged areas. This can be done by keeping a short-term focus.
The document said that the programme was supposed to address the holdup in development through a big increase in resources as well as innovative and materially different approaches to development. Even though the current government agencies carry out development projects, a special authority will be put together on the pattern of Infrastructure Development Authority Punjab.
This authority will ensure rapid and high-quality implementation of large projects, like major hospitals, dams and other projects.
