PTI worker shot dead in Karachi in a suspected incident of target killing
The victim was being threatened by drug peddlers.
On Thursday, a PTI worker was shot dead in Karachi due to a suspected target killing.
The victim worked for a newspaper based in the former Federally Administered Tribal Areas (FATA) and a web channel as well.
While addressing the incident, Asadullah Mangi, SHO of Iqbal Market police station, said that when Khalil Rehman, the 39 years old victim, came out of his house in Toori Bangash Colony of Orangi Town, a man, riding a motorcycle, opened fire on him and fled the scene. The victim sustained a number of wounds, he was rushed to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital but died during the treatment.
Khalil left being eight children. The Police are of the view that a personal grudge may have motivated the crime. However, PTI spokesperson and a member of the Sindh Assembly, Jamal Siddiqui stated that it was a targeted killing. He told Dawn that the victim was a senior party worker and was also very active on social media.
The victim was being threatened by drug peddlers:
A local PTI leader named Amir Badshah that Khalil worked for Tribal Times, a website that provides videos of tribal areas, reported that Khalil’s family was indulged in the water tanker service.
Mohammad Shoaib Mehsud, the editor of Tribal Times, verified that Khalil was their reporter in Karachi. In a recent social media post, the deceased stated that he was being threatened due to a comment of his on social media but he did not brief further.
Mr. Mehsud said that the Tribal Times’ Karachi bureau chief Nisar Ahmed told him that the victim was being threatened by some drug peddlers over a social media post he made against them.
As per the PTI spokesperson Jamal Siddiqui, said that the governor of Sindh Imran Ismail took notice of the incident and ordered the Inspector General of Police, Dr. Syed Kaleem Imam to investigate the incident and submit a report to him.
