PTV Viewers All Set To Get HD Coverage of Their Favorite TV Shows
The ministry for Information and Broadcasting was also directed to present the draft legislation regarding journalists' rights as soon as possible.
Pakistan Television (PTV) viewers will soon be able to watch their favorite TV shows in high definition quality.
During a meeting of the Senate Standing Committee on Information and Broadcasting, it was informed that PTV would be able to convert its broadcast to High Definition Technology in the next 6-8 months if the fund allocated for the project is provided on time.
The senate body was further informed that the state TV channel would be provided with Rs 200 million this year, whereas its budget for the last year stood at Rs 90 million. It was also requested to provide a budget of Rs 280 million, which was allocated for the next year, to be provided in the current year.
During the meeting, Senator Faisal Javed Khan expressed his displeasure for failing to comply with the committee’s earlier recommendations pertaining to the unpaid salaries of journalists. The committee further instructed the relevant authorities to ensure that two months pending salaries of journalists be released by the 25th of this month as recommended earlier.
The ministry for Information and Broadcasting was also directed to present the draft legislation regarding journalists’ rights as soon as possible.
The Special Assistant to the Prime Minister for Information and Broadcasting, Dr. Firdous Ashiq Awan, said that the issuance of cheques for advertisements will be subject to the timely payment of salaries.
Senator Rukhsana Zuberi, Anwarul Haq Kakar, Syed Sabir Shah, Abdur Rehman Malik and Pervaiz Rasheed also attended the meeting.
