Just ahead of Ramzan, Punjab Assembly has passed a resolution seeking a ban on celebrities hosting Ramzan transmissions. It was submitted last week and has been unanimously accepted by the assembly yesterday.
They have insisted that transmissions should instead only be hosted by religious scholars and the federal government should ensure display of utmost respect during these shows.
The resolution, as Dawn Images reports, was submitted in the assembly by Pakistan Rah-e-Haq party’s parliamentary leader Maulana Muhammad Muavia Azam. It said that these shows are hosted by people related to showbiz and they have no respect for the holy month.
“Having people associated with showbiz host Ramazan transmissions is an unfortunate practice. Ramazan transmissions are hosted by people who have no affiliation with the ranks of the Islamic faith. This practice afflicts the spirits of millions of Muslims every year.” – it stated.
Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA) is yet to release a statement about the matter as the regulatory body was also addressed in the application, being asked to enforce an immediate ban.
Fahad Mustafa, Ayesha Omar, Hamza Ali Abbasi, Juggan Kazim, Sanam Baloch, Imran Abbas are among others who become the face of their viral Ramzan transmissions. They are particularly enjoyed among the public as they offer a wide range of shows. From cooking episodes, debates, discussions on religious matters, game shows to entertainment – these transmissions have garnered quite a following.
