Punjab Government plans to initiate five sister cities agreement with China

The Punjab Government has plans to launch a Five Sister Cities agreement with China that will benefit local infrastructure.

Letter of intent:

A letter of intent will be presented by the Local Development Department and Punjab authorities to Punjab’s 24th cabinet meeting on January the 30th, 2020. The letter will present a proposal for the creation of the sister cities.

The local Government will also take up an MoU between Lahore and Xuzhou, Jiangsu province of China.

Year of friendship sister cities 2019:

Under the year of Friendship Sister Cities 2019, the Punjab Government plans to develop Faisalabad and Qingdao, Rawalpindi and Wuhan, Bahawalpur and Nanjing, Taxila, and Datong, Multan, and Xain into sister cities.

Trust under social responsibility agreement:

The energy department has requested to establish a trust under a social responsibility agreement, as well as the provision of utilities for target economic zones, which will be taken up by the cabinet.

In March, Chinese cities Urumqi, Puyang, and Xi’an were declared as sister cities to Karachi, Gwadar, and Multan during a forum held in Beijing. It aimed to strengthen the bond of friendship between Pakistan and China.

Authorities hope that the people-to-people contact between the countries would further deepen relations at political, social, cultural, and economic levels.
