Punjab Government Registers Cases Against 200 Pharmaceutical Companies

In the ongoing crackdown against spurious drugs in the province, the Punjab Quality Control Board has registered cases against 200 pharmaceutical companies in the province.

The cases were registered upon a report of the National Task Force. The task force was constituted by Drug Regulation Authority Pakistan (DRAP).

The National Task Force has been directed to make sure that the Drug Act 1976 and DRAP Act 2012 are implemented across the country. Furthermore, the federal government has also been getting regular reports from task force regarding the measures it has taken to curb the manufacturing and selling of fake drugs in the market.

The quality control board has also sent 74 cases to drug courts for prosecution. Moreover, 23 pharmaceutical units in Punjab have been sealed during the last couple of months.

The pharmaceutical units were sealed in different parts of the province including three located in Thokar Niaz Baig, 12 located in Sundar Industrial State, two each on Ferozepur Road and Sheikhupura Road, two located in Multan and one each in Bahawalpur and Sheikhupura.
