To encourage and provide transport facilities to female students, the Punjab Government has taken an unconventional step to provide scooties and motorcycles on easy instalments. Chairman of Punjab Education Foundation, Wasiq Qayyum Abbasi said that the scheme will be introduced in the initial months of 2019.
Abbasi added that during this project, cycles will be provided to male students while travelling vouchers will be provided to female students. With that, scooties would also be provided to degree classes and university students. To encourage students and provide them with relief, they will be made available on easy instalments. He further added that travelling vouchers will be provided to female students of the metric and intermediate level so that they don’t have to spend additional money on pick and drop and can reach school on time.
He indicated that there are 53,000 students and 550 colleges that educate more than 50 million students in the province. Meanwhile, the Lahore High Court has also ordered the motorcycle sellers to provide free helmets with new bikes. The court is also making further suggestions to make motorcycle riding as safe as possible.
”Steps should be taken to make motorcycle rides safe” – said LHC Justice Ali Akbar Qureshi during a hearing.
He added that a motorcycle without a helmet cannot be sold at any cost. The CJ added that if needed to be, changes can also be made to the manufacturing of motorcycles to make them more secure. On the request of Advocate Azhar Siddiqui, the court has ordered the officials to take effective measure within 15 days.
