Punjab Govt Resumes Free Cancer Medicines Project Halted During PTI Govt
The Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PML N) Punjab government has decided to resume providing free cancer medicines to patient in the province.
It should be noted that the free medicines program was halted during the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s government. Under the mega project, thousands of registered poor patients were provided free medicines.
The firm hired to supply free medicines stopped its services after the PTI Punjab’s government delayed its response to frequent requests made by the company to revise the agreement. The agreement signed with PML N government had expired in 2020.
The discontinuation of the free medicines project had put the health and lives of thousands of cancer patients at risk. It is pertinent to mention that the blood cancer medicines are highly expensive in the private sector.
A number of cancer patients had protested against the PTI Punjab government after the suspension of free medicines supply at the state-run hospitals of the province. Now, the new Chief Minister Punjab, Hamza Shehbaz Sharif, has announced to resume the program. The PML N Punjab’s government decision has been highly appreciated on social media.
