Punjab's Boards add a new subject in matric and intermediate curricula

Punjab’s Boards of Intermediate and Secondary  Education (BISE) have revised the Matriculation and Intermediate curricula. An additional subject of Quran translations has been included in it.

The added subject will be a part of board examinations for classes 9 and 11. The addition of this new subject will increase the cumulative total marks of the board examination to 1,200.

It was also revealed that Punjab Curriculum and Textbook Board will together decide the curriculum for the classes with this new subject.

Punjab’s Boards also announced the date of results for matriculation earlier. The date for the result is the 31st of August, 2022.

According to the details, the Punjab boards have also changed the criteria for awarding positions to the students. Instead of positions, now grades will be given to the students who appeared in exams. Moreover, all students will be declared ‘successful.’

The meeting also concluded that the results would be announced on the respective board’s official website.

Quran teaching in universities

Back in the year 2020, the Punjab government also decided to make teaching the Holy Quran mandatory in universities.

Punjab Governor Secretariat released a notification in this aspect. It was mentioned that students wouldn’t be awarded a degree if they do not study Quran with translation. The lecturers were also instructed to teach Quran.

It was decided that the Quran course will be equivalent to one credit hour per year. It also instructed that the students should be awarded grades as they are done for the other subjects.
